BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Centre women's basketball was handed a 56-43 defeat Sunday afternoon inside Bill Battle Coliseum by Southern Athletic Association rival Birmingham-Southern.
The loss moves the Colonels to 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the SAA, while the Panthers improve to 8-10 (5-2 SAA).
HIGHLIGHTS
- BSC's Emilee Olsen started strong with 11 first-quarter points, helping the Panthers take a 15-9 lead after 10 minutes.
- A 5-0 run from the hosts to start the second quarter forced a quick timeout from the Colonels, who then answered with a 6-0 spurt of their own.
Madison Rice drained a 3-pointer to help swing momentum.
- Centre eventually faced a 26-19 deficit at the half.
- The third quarter followed a similar punch and counterpunch script, but the Panthers outscored the Colonels 17-13 to command a 43-32 lead after three periods.
- The Colonels trimmed the BSC lead to single digits, but could not complete a comeback bid.

- Centre shot just 30% (18-60) overall while hitting 4 of 17 from 3-point range. BSC finished a shade under 40% (22-56) from the floor, going just 3 of 19 from deep.
