Centre women snap skid with 65-54 win over BSC

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's basketball team welcomed Birmingham-Southern to Alumni Gym for a Sunday afternoon conference tilt. The Colonels ended their six-game conference losing streak, avenging a loss in Birmingham last week with a 65-54 win.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Centre took a 10-7 lead after one period, thanks in large part to the efforts of Mikayla Fee, who came off the bench to record six points, five rebounds, a block and a steal.
- The Panthers heated up from three-point range in the second half and went into the locker room with a 25-23 halftime lead.
- In the third quarter both teams picked up the offensive pace. BSC took a four-point lead early in the period, but Centre responded with a 12-0 run featuring three-pointers from Presley Chirico, Lakken Miller and Madison Marcum. Abigail Wehby followed her own miss to score and put Centre up 46-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
- A three by Kat Wilson and a free throw by Chirico put the Colonels up 54-47 at the halfway point of the fourth period, matching what had been the largest lead of the game. The lead reached double digits on a drive and score by Wehby and the Panthers never threatened the rest of the way.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Fee recorded her second career double-double, matching career highs with 11 points and ten rebounds. Wehby equaled Fee's 11 points for team high marks. Chirico and Abigail Stewart also scored in double figures with ten points each.
- Although they shot 42 percent from the floor for the game, the Colonels excelled from long range, connecting on 53 percent of their three-point attempts, including four straight in the third quarter.
- The Colonels took good care of the ball against the Panthers, dishing out 11 assists against only seven turnovers, one of the best assist/turnover ratios of the season for Centre. Newcomer Rachel Jennings paced the Colonels with four assists.
- Centre played excellent defense against BSC leading scorer Emilee Olsen, who managed four points on 2-of-7 shooting.
