DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball fell in a back-and-forth overtime meeting against Hendrix Sunday, 60-58, inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Colonels fall to 9-5 overall and suffer their first defeat in the Southern Athletic Association, sitting at 2-1. The visiting Warriors have an identical 9-5 (2-1) mark for the season.
Centre was led by
Kat Wilson's season-high 22 points on an 8 of 10 shooting effort, including 4 of 5 from deep.
Abigail Wehby finished with a career-best 12 points – all coming in the fourth quarter and overtime.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Hendrix led 13-11 after a close-contested first quarter, in which Wilson hit a pair of 3-pointers to lead Centre's early offensive efforts.
- Wilson began the second quarter with another triple, giving the Colonels their first lead at 14-13.
- After being held scoreless for nearly five minutes, the Warriors would finish the half on a run of their own, taking a slim 23-22 lead into the break.
- An 8-0 stretch for the Warriors in the third quarter helped create some more separation, and consecutive 3-pointers to close the period had Hendrix up 37-31.
- Wehby took over in the fourth, at one point scoring eight Centre points in a row to help the Colonels take a 45-42 lead with 3:40 remaining.
Madison Marcum hit consecutive 3-pointers during the run, as well.
- With roughly 90 seconds left, Wehby sank a jumper to make it 48-45 in favor of the Colonels. Hendrix's Jayla King would hit a late 3-pointer to tie the game and force overtime.
- The Warriors edged out the Colonels in the extra period, 12-10, despite eight points from Wilson.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The two sides were nearly identical offensively as a team, each finishing near 40% shooting overall. Centre knocked down eight 3-pointers to Hendrix's seven, but the Warriors went plus-three from the free throw line.
- Wilson topped her previous season-high of 21 points set in Friday night's win over Rhodes. She also added three rebounds and three assists.
- Wehby recorded 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Mikayla Fee and
Madison Rice co-led Centre with five rebounds apiece.
- Hendrix led both points in the paint (24-14) and bench points (25-11).
