Colonels win third straight, defeat Hendrix 3-1

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer picked up its third win in a row Friday evening, defeating visiting Hendrix by a 3-1 margin in Southern Athletic Association action inside Andrew P. Amend Field.
 
Alexander Garuba made history early in the match, scoring his 41st career goal to match Ryan Garvey for the program's career record.
 
With the victory, the Colonels improve to 9-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SAA, dropping the Warriors to 3-10 and 0-3 in-conference.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Garuba needed 93 seconds to match the scoring record, netting his 41st goal after corralling a pass from Will Newton.
- Newton himself scored six minutes later off the combined assists from Nafiz Budeiri and Dylan Barth, marking his third goal of the season and first since the opener.
- After providing the "golden goal" in an overtime victory last Sunday at Maryville, Budeiri hit the back of the net again Friday in the 19th minute to put Centre in command, 3-0.
- Hendrix's Ricky Barrientos rebounded a missed shot late in the first half to put the Warriors on the board, and the Colonels carried a 3-1 advantage into the break.
- Centre out-shot Hendrix 11-3 in a choppy second half, but the final 45 minutes played out without a goal.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Garuba now sits tied for first in both goals (41) and game-winning goals (15) for a career. He is currently fourth all-time with 93 points.  
- The Colonels held a massive 25-6 edge in shots, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on target. Newton paced all individuals with eight tries.
- Tate Johnson provided two saves and a handful of timely play in goal for Centre.
- Centre held nearly 70% of the possession throughout the match.
