Colonels hang seven on Warriors in SAA blowout

DANVILLE, Ky. – The ninth-ranked Centre women's soccer squad continued their dominant 2019 campaign, vanquishing visiting Hendrix by a wide 7-0 margin Friday evening at Andrew P. Amend Field.

The Colonels improve to 14-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Association, winning their 36th consecutive regular season match while dropping the Warriors to 5-4-5 overall and 1-1-1 in-conference.

Along the way, senior Alana Hughes matched her own single-season record with her 13th assist.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Hughes dished her record-tying assist in the 19th minute, finding Meghan Paynter for the match's first goal. Hughes' 13th assist ties her own program and SAA record set in 2017.
- Just before the half, fellow senior Hannah Bandura beat the Hendrix keeper low for her second goal of the season, making it 2-0 at the break.
- The Colonels landed a flurry of goals early in the second half, seeing their lead balloon to 5-0 in a matter of minutes.
- Dean began the barrage with a score in the 56th minute on a loose ball in front of the goal.
- Hughes would net her team-leading 10th goal less than 60 seconds later, thanks to a precise ball in from Gracie Fitzgerald.
- Dean then capped the three-goal flurry with yet another stunning offensive display. She split a pair of Hendrix defenders and sent a frozen rope to the back of the net from outside the 18-yard box, marking her fifth goal in the past three home matches.
- Julia Doran notched her second goal of the year in the 76th minute, and Bandura wrapped up the scoring in the final minute with a long strike from some 35-yards out.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Friday's shutout was the fourth in a row and ninth in the previous 10 matches.
- Bandura's two-goal effort was the senior's first in her career.
- Centre dominated possession yet again, amassing sizeable totals in shots (31 to 3) and shots on goal (16 to 2). Hughes and Brooke Smithson led all individuals with five shots apiece.
- Jonelle Barron played roughly 67 minutes in-goal for the Colonels, while Sarah Stodghill took over in the final stages.
