DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre volleyball kicked off Saturday's Homecoming festivities by welcoming Southern Athletic Association co-leaders Hendrix to Alumni Gym. The Colonels pushed the Warriors to the brink for four sets, but Hendrix prevailed in the fourth set.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was tightly contested, with three lead changes and nine ties before either team reached 15 points. Leading by one, the Warriors scored the next four points to take their biggest lead at 22-17. Centre closed to within 22-20, but Hendrix scored three straight points to take a 25-20 win.
- The second set played out in a similar fashion, with neither team able to make the big run in the early stages. The Colonels gradually extended the lead around the midway point and grabbed their biggest lead at 20-14 after an ace from
Alice Rodgerson. The Warriors cut the lead to a single point three separate times, but the Colonels had answers every time as Rodgerson put home the final kill on a 25-23 win.
- After four lead changes and seven ties in the third set, the Warriors went on the biggest run by either team in the match, outscoring Centre 10-1 and eventually winning by a score of 25-19.
- Unlike the previous three sets, the fourth set saw the lead changes occur in the final stretches. After Centre took the early lead, Hendrix eventually took a 21-19 lead of their own. A kill by
Madison Montross and three by Rodgerson put the Colonels back on top 23-22, but the Warriors scored the final three points to win 25-23 and take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- For the second consecutive match, Rodgerson had a career day, shattering her previous career high mark with 23 kills.
-
Meredith Phillips also established a new career high with 52 assists in the contest, breaking her previous season high of 48 against LaGrange in September.
- Another statistical career high came courtesy of
Peyton Vacala, whose 39 digs are not only the most by the senior in a game, but also good for the third highest single-game digs total in program history. Montross added ten digs and the Colonels held a 77-73 advantage in digs over the Warriors.
