DANVILLE, Ky. – After dropping several close conference contests at home, the Centre volleyball team got over the hump on Sunday morning as they completed the regular season sweep of the Rhodes Lynx, winning in four sets to eclipse last season's conference win total.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In the first set, the Colonels faced an early deficit, but after both teams alternated streaks of four consecutive points, the Colonels fired back with five of the next seven points. The Lynx managed to tie the game at 22-22, but kills from
Katie Hall and
Alice Rodgerson gave the Colonels a set points and
Samantha Merkley came through with an ace to give Centre a 25-22 win.
- The second set was close most of the way, with seven lead changes and nine ties. Rhodes used a 7-0 run at the end of the set to take a 25-17 win and tie the match at 1-1.
- In the pivotal third set, the Colonels broke a 10-10 tie with a 7-1 run, finishing the set with 15 out of the last 20 points and winning 25-15 to push Rhodes to the brink.
- The fourth set played out like most of the match, with neither team able to push through and grab a big lead. Leading 14-13, Centre went on the biggest extended run of the match, scoring eight points in a row, featuring three kills from Hall, two from Merkley and two aces by
Peyton Vacala. Rhodes cut the deficit to 24-19 at match point, but
Perrin Long put away the final kill to give Centre a 25-19 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hall finished with a career high 12 kills to lead all players. Rodgerson added ten kills as nobody else on either team finished with double digits in kills.

Meredith Phillips finished with 33 assists, eight more than the entire Rhodes team.
- Vacala posted a game high in digs with 19.
