Centre men blank BSC for fifth straight win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Centre men's soccer extended its season long winning streak to five matches in a row with an outstanding team performance against Birmingham Southern, defeating the Panthers by a score of 5-0.

HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels dominated possession in the first half, putting a flurry of shots on BSC keeper Kurt Moore. 25 minutes into the game, Centre finally broke through as Alexander Garuba converted a penalty kick for the only goal in the half.
- Centre doubled its lead halfway through the second half as Ethan Noel found Will Newton for a goal and the Colonels went up by a score of 2-0.
- In the later stages of the second half, Centre exploded for three goals in nine minutes. With 18 minutes left, Noel scored off an assist from Garuba. Nathan Wilcox provided the remaining two goals after assists by Nick Mazzarella and Garuba to put the finishing touches on a 5-0 Centre victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Centre held a 32-4 advantage in shots against the Panthers, including a 16-2 edge in shots on goal. Garuba and Wilcox tied for the game high mark with seven shots each.
- The Colonels also held BSC without a corner kick for the entire while accumulating five of their own.
- Lost in the offensive explosion, Tate Johnson stopped both Panther shots in his direction.
- Since losing at Oglethorpe on Sept. 28, the Colonels have outscored their last five opponents by a combined 15-3 with shutouts in each of the last two matches.
