Colonels push regular season win streak to 15 in shutout at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – The 15th-ranked Centre field hockey squad extended its regular season winning streak to 15 games Saturday afternoon, defeating Earlham by a 2-0 margin at Darrell Beane Stadium.

The Colonels improve to an even 10-0 for the season, dropping the host Quakers to 5-5 while locking up their fifth shutout of the year.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The first shot of the game proved successful for the Colonels, as Megan Coomes hit the back of the cage less than three minutes in for her eighth goal of the season.
- Centre dominated possession the rest of the first quarter, but the Quakers kept them off the board and would eventually get the ball to their attacking end in the second period.
- Three straight Earlham penalty corners resulted in shots for the home side, but Sienna Joseph was equal to the task, recording three saves in quick order to preserve a 1-0 halftime lead.
- Two-time Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, Sarah Biggs, provided some separation with a goal early in the third, getting an assist from Savannah Elpers.
- Centre did not surrender one shot to the Quakers in the second half, stifling any attempt at a comeback.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Thanks to that second half defense, Centre out-shot Earlham 20-5, putting eight on goal. The Colonels also held a 12-4 advantage in corner opportunities.
- Centre featured a balanced attack with Biggs, Elpers and Caroline Brotzge each recording four shots.
- Joseph, making her first collegiate start, played all 60 minutes in goal and finished with three saves.
- A team-best four of Coomes' eight goals this season have been game-winners.
