Elpers’ career day highlights 7-1 rout at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Savannah Elpers scored a career-high four goals Sunday afternoon, helping the No. 15 Centre field hockey squad cruise past DePauw at Reavis Stadium.

In what has been a regional rivalry dating back to the teams' time in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Colonels (11-0) thoroughly overpowered the Tigers (5-6), earning their first win in Greencastle since 2009.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre's Caroline Brotzge scored the opening goal midway through the first quarter, and Elpers doubled the lead just 11 seconds later to quickly make it 2-0. Megan Coomes assisted on both goals.
- Elpers broke away and eluded a DePauw defender for another goal near the start of the second period.
- DePauw finally got on the board when Gretchen Bechthold scored in the 19th minute, but Centre would respond with a three-goal flurry before the halftime break.
- Erin Bozdech netted her first collegiate goal midway through the quarter, and Elpers secured her hat trick on an assist from Shelby Young shortly after.
- With less than 30 seconds left in the half, Olivia Carter flicked the ball past the DePauw keeper on a Katie Jenkins corner, making it 6-1 at intermission on her first tally of the season.
- Elpers notched her historic fourth goal early in the third period, giving her 15 for the season.
