DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team faced the Birmingham Southern Panthers in SAA action in Alumni Gym, and although they rallied in two sets, the Panthers fended off the Colonels to take a 3-0 victory.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set saw BSC score the first four points, but the Colonels rallied to tie the score at 9-9. BSC scored the next six and eventually built their lead to 23-15 before Centre responded with four straight points, three coming from kills by
Katie Hall. Facing set point, the Colonels fought it off after kills by
Alice Rodgerson and
Meredith Phillips, but the Panthers put home the final point to win 25-21.
- In the second set, the Panthers charged out of the gates to a 17-3 lead and never looked back, eventually winning by a score of 25-15.
- The Colonels trailed for the majority of the third set, but facing a 17-12 deficit, Centre roared back with eight of the next nine points to take the lead and prompt a BSC timeout. A kill by
Savanna Roper gave the Colonels a 23-20 lead and forced the second BSC timeout, but the Panthers responded with the final five points to take a 25-23 win and the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rookie
Josie Grace-Mudd led the Colonels with ten kills and also hit an outstanding .409 for the match.
- Phillips led all players with 23 assists and added four stealth kills on seven attempts from her setter position.
- The Colonels had a 58-51 advantage over the Panthers in digs, led by
Peyton Vacala with a game high 19 and Rodgerson with 13.
