Centre volleyball drops five-setter to Millsaps

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team had its second home match in the last 24 hours as the Colonels welcomed the Millsaps Majors to Alumni Gym. The Colonels went the distance with the Majors, but Millsaps prevailed in the fifth and deciding set.

HIGHLIGHTS

- The Majors used a late run in the opening set to take control and extend the lead to 22-15, eventually winning by a score of 25-20.
- In the second set, Centre took advantage of early Majors errors and built their biggest lead at 17-8. Consecutive aces by Peyton Vacala put the Colonels up 21-12, and Centre tied the score at 1-1 after Savanna Roper put home the final kill on a 25-17 victory.
- The third set was the closest one of the contest to date, with neither team able to grab a large advantage. The Colonels built a 17-12 lead midway through, but the Majors rallied to retake the lead at 21-20. With the score tied at 23-23, Alice Rodgerson gave Centre a set point with a clutch kill and then Josie Grace-Mudd and Aby Dallas combined on a block to give the Colonels a 25-23 win.
- Millsaps got off to a hot start in the fourth set, scoring ten of the first 12 points and never looking back on the way to a 25-12 win to bring the match to a fifth set.
- The fifth set played out in a similar fashion as the fourth, with the Majors scoring eight straight points to gain control, eventually winning by a score of 15-7.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Rodgerson tied a career high with 17 kills in the marathon match and hit .238 for the match.
- Meredith Phillips led all players with 35 of the Colonels' 40 assists.
- Peyton Vacala finished with a team high 15 digs.
