Budeiri’s strike lifts Colonels past Scots in extra time

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Nafiz Budeiri scored a left-footed strike from 35 yards in overtime, providing the "golden goal" as Centre's mounted a 2-1 comeback victory at Maryville Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels (8-3-1) trailed for much of the match, but a late penalty kick forced extra time and Budeiri's rocket from distance snapped a three-match skid against the Scots (9-4). Centre is now 12-8 all-time against Maryville, with its first winning decision since 2012.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Scots would score first in Sunday's meeting, with Austin Vinyard finishing a pass from Trevor McDonald to make it 1-0.
- Centre's attack accounted for eight shots and earned three corner kicks in the second half, but for nearly 38 minutes the Scots maintained their narrow lead.
- Alexander Garuba would equalize in the 83rd minute, though, netting his 40th career goal to pull within one of Centre's all-time record.
- The Colonel defense successfully defended two corner kicks in the last 90 seconds to force extra time.
- On a counter attack six minutes into the first overtime, Budeiri gathered the ball near midfield and ripped a shot through the legs of Maryville's keeper for the win. It marked his first goal of the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre and Maryville combined for 27 shots, although the Colonels led in both total attempts (16) and shots on goal (6).
- The match featured eight yellow cards – four for each side.
- Garuba's 40 career goals equals Jeremy Rotter (1994-97) for second most in program history, one behind Ryan Garvey (2009-12).
