SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre field hockey defeated Sewanee by a 6-0 score Saturday afternoon at Puett Field, claiming the Southern Athletic Association regular season championship for the second year in a row.
The 14th-ranked Colonels improve to 16-0 overall, continuing their record start to a campaign while finishing the SAA slate a perfect 4-0. It marks the first ever undefeated regular season in program history.
Sewanee, which lost 7-0 during a non-conference meeting against Centre back on Oct. 20, slides to 5-10 and 1-3 in-conference.

Megan Coomes hit the back of the cage on an unassisted score to open the rout.

Savannah Elpers, who would go on to record her second hat trick of the season, made it 2-0 Centre at the 12-minute mark, scoring off the feed from fellow senior
Caroline Brotzge.
- Elpers completed the trifecta in the second period, scoring twice to put the Colonels up 4-0 going into the locker room at halftime.
- After a scoreless third period, the Colonels tacked on two more goals in the fourth quarter as
Shelby Young and
Katie Jenkins each scored to cap off the 6-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After being sidelined three weeks in October, Elpers has been on fire since her return to the lineup, with four goals in the last two contests.
- Much like in the first matchup, Centre dominated possession against the Tigers, outshooting Sewanee 23-1 for the game and holding a 7-0 edge in penalty corners. The Colonels outshot Sewanee 45-2 in their two matchups this season.
