Maryville runs away from Centre in second half, 66-50

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball fell by a 66-50 score Saturday against Maryville, competing in the finale of the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic inside Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Colonels fall to 1-3 with the loss, while the Scots head home with a 4-1 record.
 
Kat Wilson dropped a season-high 19 points for Centre, adding five rebounds, while Abigail Wehby totaled 12 points, six boards and four assists.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Courtney Carruthers helped the visiting Scots grab a 15-11 lead after one quarter, scoring nine of her game-high 20 in the opening 10 minutes.
- Centre bounced back with a strong start to the second quarter, fueled by Wilson's back-to-back baskets.
- The Colonels strung a 7-0 run together, taking an 18-15 just over two minutes into the frame.
- The rest of the quarter proved to be close, as Maryville regained a slim 30-29 advantage heading into the half.
- A fast 6-0 start from Maryville set the tone to open a second half in which the visitors outscored their hosts, 38-21.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Maryville finished with a plus-13 margin in free throws, going 18-for-24 compared to Centre's 5-for-13 effort. Overall, the Scots shot nearly 48% (21-44) to the Colonels' 34% (21-61).
- Although the Colonels forced the Scots into nearly twice as many turnovers (19 to 10), Centre's points-off-turnovers advantage was just 15-14. Five different Colonels contributed a steal.
- The Scots finished with a 41-30 advantage on the glass, with Shelby Hix's eight rebounds leading all individuals.

Centre has a short turnaround before returning to its home court, hosting Spalding next Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m.
