DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball put together a stellar second half, running away from Hanover, 74-61, Saturday evening inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Colonels (3-3) out-scored the Panthers (1-2) 46-31 across the third and fourth quarters, leading to their first win over Hanover since the 2013-14 season.
Several individuals paved the way for Centre's success, especially from the starting lineup.
Kat Wilson paced the team with 19 points, adding seven rebounds.
Abigail Wehby (17 points, 12 assists) and
Ellen Hicks (14 points, 12 rebounds) each recorded their first career double-doubles.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre got out to a hot start, leading 13-8 midway through the first quarter, but the Panthers would recover for a 16-15 advantage after the opening period.
- Baskets from Wilson and
Madison Marcum helped the Colonels regain a lead early the following quarter, but again Hanover was able to squeak ahead after a back-and-forth period, leading 30-28 at the half.
- The Colonels came out with renewed energy in the third quarter, forcing three straight Hanover turnovers while getting consecutive baskets from Hicks to set the tone.
- Centre would outscore Hanover 22-13 in the period, as Marcum knocked down two of her four 3-pointers to help the cause.
- A 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter forced an early Hanover timeout, and saw the Colonels take their biggest lead of the game at 56-43.
- Hanover got it within six on multiple occasions, but Centre went on a devastating 10-1 run to all but end the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hicks set career highs in both points (14) and rebounds (12), and added two blocks and a steal. Wehby finished with a personal-best 12 assists, and was one shy of her career high in points, which she set in Tuesday's win over Spalding.
- Wilson netted 19 points for the third straight game, going 7 of 13 overall while hitting three 3-pointers. Her seven rebounds were a season high.
- Marcum hit four 3-pointers, also contributing four boards and two steals.

Josie Thacker recorded four assists, four rebounds and three points in 13 minutes off the bench.
- The Colonels finished with 20 assists as a team, their most since dishing 23 against Millsaps back on Jan. 7, 2018.
- Centre out-rebounded Hanover 38-32, and had six second chance points off six offensive boards.
- Hanover went just 14-for-28 from the free throw line, and missed all of its 3-pointers after a 3-for-3 start. Centre, meanwhile, shot a season-high 50% (28-56) overall and matched a season-high with eight threes.
- After surrendering 13 turnovers in the first half, the Colonels turned it over just three times in the second. On the other side of the ball, Centre had 18 points off Hanover's 14 turnovers.
