ATLANTA – Centre women's basketball found itself on the wrong end of another back-and-forth contest Tuesday afternoon, falling by a 65-59 score against LeTourneau as part of the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe.
The Yellowjackets (3-4) finished strong against the Colonels (3-6), claiming the last of nine total lead changes midway through the fourth quarter.
Centre was led in scoring by
Kat Wilson, who had 16 points. Rookie
Payton Herold finished with a collegiate-high 13 points, hitting all four of her field goal attempts, including three 3-pointers.
HIGHLIGHTS
- More than two minutes passed before the opening basket – a 3-pointer from
Madison Marcum – as both sides struggled to get the offense going.
- LeTourneau ultimately led 8-7 after 10 minutes.
- Centre was able to turn it around in the second, outscoring LeTourneau 20-14 to grab a lead before halftime.
- Herold sank two of the Colonels' six first-half 3-pointers during the stretch, and led the team with eight points.
- The third quarter was closely contested and high scoring, as the teams combined to sink more than 55% of their field goal tries.
Ellen Hicks paced Centre with six points throughout the 10 minutes.
- LeTourneau trimmed the deficit to one point at 49-48 heading to the final period.
- A 10-4 run to start the fourth quarter saw the Yellowjackets take their first lead since early in the second period.
- They would hold Centre to just 4 of 15 shooting overall across the fourth frame, hanging on to secure the victory.

- Centre hit 9 of 20 from beyond the arc, led by Herold's unblemished 3-for-3 effort.
- The Colonels connected on 8 of 9 free throws, but the Yellowjackets held an advantage with 21 freebies on 30 tries.
- LeTourneau out-rebounded Centre by a narrow 35-33 margin. Hicks led the Colonels with eight boards, followed by
Abigail Wehby's seven and
Mikayla Fee's six.
