Colonels open Daytona Beach Shootout with 10-point win over Marymount

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Centre men's basketball defeated Marymount, 72-62, Thursday evening inside the Ocean Center as part of the Daytona Beach Shootout.

The Colonels (8-2) came out on the right side of a prototypical game of runs, dropping the Saints (6-4) behind an efficient offensive performance.

Centre finished nearly 55% overall from the field, but was 25 of 41 (61%) from inside the arc and had a 44-24 advantage in points in the paint.

Jacobs Bates went for 22 points and 11 rebounds, good for his fifth double-double of the season. Art Walker (13 points), Dawson Crump (13) and Perry Ayers (11) each finished in double figures scoring, as well.

- The Colonels held the Saints to a 1-for-6 start while forcing four turnovers during the run.
- Marymount eventually settled in, and went on an extended 24-10 run to take a lead with five minutes left in the half.
- Centre answered back, going on a 12-0 stretch with 3-pointers from Carter Baughman and Walker. Marymount was ultimately held without a point in the final 5:13 as the Colonels took a 36-27 lead into the half.
- The Saints were able to climb back into the game as Centre hit a minor cold spell, going more than five minutes without a bucket as Marymount pulled within 48-47.
- A Bailey Rakes basket ended the draught, and the Colonels would go on an 11-0 run that was capped by Drew Wilson's 3-pointer that made it 59-47 with seven minutes left.
- The Colonels were able to keep the Saints at bay the remainder of the contest, securing their eighth victory of the season.
