DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fresh off an upset over no. 14 Marymount, the Centre women's basketball team capped off their weekend at the Daytona Beach Shootout with an impressive performance against the Hood Blazers, cruising to a 78-50 victory behind multiple career highs from senior
Mikayla Fee.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre's defense set the tone early on, forcing the Blazers into ten turnovers in the opening period and taking a 15-8 lead after the first ten minutes.
Abigail Wehby filled the stat sheet in the first quarter with four points and three steals.
- The Colonels steadily built their lead in the second quarter as Hood got no closer than six points during the period. Centre used runs of 8-0 and 7-0 to jump out to a 20-point lead at the half, closing out the quarter with seven straight points in the final 1:13.
- Leading 47-28 early in the third quarter,
Kat Wilson, Peyton Herold and
Kylee Murray converted consecutive three-pointers to help the Colonels double up the Blazers at 56-28.
- The Colonels would lead by as many as 30 points after a three-pointer from
Hannah Jackson midway through the fourth quarter and again on a jumper from
Taylor Garrett near the end of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After fouling out in 15 minutes against Marymount on Thursday, Fee bounced back with the best game of her career against Hood, finishing with a new career high of 16 points and matching a career high with 14 rebounds, all in a very efficient 18 minutes of action.
- Wilson was the only other Centre player in double figures with a dozen points, but 11 different Colonels scored in a balanced offensive attack.
- The Colonels dominated the glass against the Blazers, outrebounding Hood 17-8 on the offensive end and 50-32 for the game to a tune of a 21-6 edge in second chance points.
- Centre finished with 16 assists for the game, led by a season/career high six from Herold.
- The Colonels forced Hood into 18 turnovers on the day, including 11 steals. Four different Centre players finished with multiple steals, led by Wehby with four.
- Centre led for 38:25 of a possible 40 minutes, including leading by double digits for the final 25 minutes of the game.
