Mason matches Bryant as Colonels continue SAA roll against Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre men's basketball head coach Greg Mason earned win No. 382 Friday evening, matching former Colonel coach Tom Bryant for most in program history. Mason's squad cruised past Rhodes, 79-57, inside Mallory Gymnasium to earn the landmark victory.

A 1994 Centre graduate who played for Bryant, Mason has enjoyed continued success since taking over prior to the 1999-2000 season.

This version of the Colonels, who received votes just outside of the latest top 25 national rankings, improve to 18-3 overall and 9-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. Rhodes slides to 4-17 (1-9).

HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre jumped out to an early 9-2 lead after five quick points from Art Walker.
- The Colonels would take their first double figure lead just past the midway point in the first quarter, following a bucket from Tucker Sine.
- Rhodes pulled within eight, 27-19, at the 5:36 mark, but the Colonels answered with a crippling 11-0 run to balloon the lead up to 19.
- Centre would take a 38-21 lead into the break, as Perry Ayers' eight points led a balanced attack that featured nine different scorers.
- The Lynx would never threaten, failing to bring the deficit any closer than 17 points while trailing by as many as 28.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Four Colonels finished in double figures, including Sine (14 points), Ayers (14), Walker (10) and Jacob Bates (10). In all, 11 individuals contributed at least one field goal for Centre.
- Ayers added five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. KC Purvis led the team with six rebounds in just 11 minutes, also totaling a pair of steals.
- Bailey Rakes led all players with four steals while Centre finished with 10 as a team.
- Centre shot an even 50 % (30-60) overall, and held an advantage in points off turnovers (22 to 13) and second chance points (17 to 5).

Mason has a chance to claim sole ownership of the most wins in program history Sunday, when Centre faces Hendrix in Conway, Ark. The Colonels defeated the Warriors by a 72-56 margin in Alumni Gym earlier this season.
