DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball fell victim to a streaking Berry squad Sunday afternoon, 47-40, inside Alumni Gymnasium.
It was also Senior Day for the Colonels, who celebrated the careers of
Cheyenne Bunner,
Lakken Miller,
Madison Rice,
Abigail Stewart and
Sarah Waldo.
Centre drops to 12-12 overall and 5-8 in the Southern Athletic Association, while Berry, winners of nine straight, improve to 13-11 (9-4 SAA).
HIGHLIGHTS
- The long ball was working early for the Colonels, as
Abigail Wehby,
Madison Marcum,
Kat Wilson and Rice combined to hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter.
- Centre would carry a 17-10 lead into the second period after limiting the Vikings offensively.
- The Colonels outscored the Vikings in a slow second quarter, 8-6, taking a 25-16 halftime lead.
- Centre went cold in the third, going scoreless for nearly seven full minutes before Wilson hit a 3-pointer. A late and-one play from
Mikayla Fee helped Centre hold onto a narrow lead after three.
- The Vikings capitalized in the fourth period, outscoring the Colonels 18-9 to complete the comeback victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After starting 5 of 9 from long range, the Colonels hit just one of their final 20 3-pointers. Overall, Centre shot just 23% from the floor.
- Wehby and Wilson co-led the team with eight points apiece. Stewart, Fee and Rice each grabbed seven rebounds.
- Centre led Berry in both second chance points (13-5) and bench points (19-8).
