Colonels earn first win behind Hardy’s five goals

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Centre women's lacrosse earned their first win of the season in a 15-7 rout against Otterbein Saturday afternoon, getting a career-high five goals from sophomore Mary Katherine Hardy.
 
Hardy's effort helped the Colonels move to 1-1 for the season, and came just a week after her sister, Hannah Hardy, set her own personal best with six goals. 
 
The host Cardinals start the season 0-1.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre jumped out to a four-goal advantage in the first 10 minutes of the game, getting goals from the Hardys and Bella Tacogue.
- The Cardinals would finally break their draught midway through the half, but freshman Amelia Tomasulo quickly answered with her first collegiate goal.
- Another late goal from Mary Katherine Hardy gave Centre a 6-1 halftime lead.
- The Colonels took a 10-goal lead within the first nine minutes of the second half, with McKenna Hulette and Sloan Reding getting in on the scoring. Reding's goal off a Hannah Hardy assist was the first of her career. 
- Otterbein would add four late goals, but the Colonels' lead was never threatened as they coasted to the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Following Mary Katherine's five goals, Hulette recorded a hat trick while Tacogue and Hannah Hardy had a pair each. Tomasulo, Reding and Abby Whitford each scored once.
- Hannah Hardy led the team with four assists.
- Lola Duff totaled 10 saves while earning her first collegiate win.
- Hulette and Katy Haering each paced the team with three ground balls. 
- The two sides were even in total shots (25) and turnovers (24), although the Colonels' clear rate (20 of 25) was much higher than the Cardinals' (12 of 22). 
 
UP NEXT
Centre returns to action next Saturday, traveling to face Baldwin Wallace for a 3:30 p.m. start.
