DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's lacrosse finished on the wrong end of a back-and-forth affair Sunday against Wittenberg, falling 13-10 under rainy conditions at Farris Stadium. 
 
After rallying to take a 10-9 lead in the fourth quarter, the Colonels (0-1) surrendered four straight goals to the visiting Tigers (1-0).
 
Junior John Morrison scored a career-high five goals in the loss. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Dominic Nayan converted the season's first goal almost 10 minutes in and gave Centre a 1-0 lead after getting an assist from Leland Gray.
- Jack Shannon added a goal later in the first quarter, making it 2-0 on an unassisted score as the shotclock neared zero.
- The Tigers ripped off four straight goals between the end of the first quarter and start of the second, claiming a 4-2 advantage.
- Chase Poplin stemmed Wittenberg's momentum with a goal midway through the quarter, but the Tigers' Cooper Harris answered right away to make it 5-3.
- Morrison netted the first of his five goals with just six seconds left in the opening half, roping a goal from nearly 20 yards out.
- He stayed warm in the third period, scoring consecutive goals off of feeds from Will Lathram and Padraic Dermody to briefly regain a 6-5 lead for the Colonels.
- Wittenberg's Noah Moderwell responded just 19 seconds later, scoring the first of three straight that gave the Tigers an 8-6 lead late in the third.
- Morrison accounted for another goal with 30 seconds left in the quarter, bringing Centre within one heading to the fourth. 
- Following a goal from Moderwell, Gray scored twice within 35 seconds to again pull the Colonels level. He squeezed the first past Wittenberg's goalie off an assist from Nayan, and scored the second on a fastbreak pass from Vincent Pisacano while falling to the turf.
- Centre seemed poised to claim a win in Grant Zimmerman's debut when Morrison scored near the 9:42 mark, taking a high pass from Malubay and converting to make it 10-9.
- The visiting Tigers had the final say, however, marking the sixth lead change while scoring four unanswered.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Wittenberg dominated the faceoffs, claiming 20 of 27 and 8 of 9 in the fourth quarter. The Tigers also finished with 37 ground balls to the Colonels' 22.
- Shannon, Nolan Irey and Connor Jongewaard each had four ground balls for Centre, and Shannon also led the team with three caused turnovers. 
- Jongewaard racked up 21 saves in his collegiate starting debut, just three shy of the Colonel record.
