DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's lacrosse scored early and often Wednesday evening against Mt. St. Joseph, routing the visiting Lions by a 23-1 score under the lights at Farris Stadium.
It marked the first win of
Grant Zimmerman's head coaching career with the Colonels, who pick up their first victory of 2019 while scoring the program's most goals since a 23-3 win at Oglethorpe in 2017.
Centre moves to 1-1 overall while Mt. St. Joseph falls to 0-2.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Goals from
Nic Malubay and
Leland Gray literally seconds apart opened the scoring onslaught near the 12:30 mark, and Centre never looked back.

Chase Poplin,
John Morrison and
Will Lathram also got in on the scoring action before the Lions were able to counter with a score of their own late in the period.
- Gray's hat trick goal with just three seconds left in the first quarter made it 8-1 heading to the second.
- Sophomore
Miles Diehl's four goals highlighted a second quarter that saw Centre's lead swell to 15-1 by the halftime break. They were the first goals in Diehl's collegiate career.

Anthony DiMichele scored his first goal of the season in the second, and Poplin completed the hat trick in the quarter, as well.

Caleb Anderson rattled in a goal to open the scoring less than a minute into the third quarter, marking the first of his Centre career.

Luke Johnson and
Drew Greenblatt each notched their first career goals, as well, as Centre coasted home.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels utterly dominated the box score, finishing with massive advantages in shots (57-7), shots on goal (37-1) and ground balls (45-11). Centre also cleared 19 of 20 attempts, and corralled 25 of 28 faceoffs.
- Goal scorers included Diehl (5), Gray (3), Poplin (3), Lathram (2), Morrison (2), Warner (2), Anderson (2), Malubay (1), DiMichele (1), Greenblatt (1) and Johnson (1).

Dominic Nayan led the team with four assists, while DiMichele had two.

Lucas Mozingo claimed 17 of 18 faceoffs and led Centre with seven ground balls.
Jack Pharies won 8 of 10 at faceoff and finished with four ground balls.

Britt O'Brien each had two caused turnovers.
