Cold spell dooms Colonels in SAA loss at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre women's lacrosse was stifled Sunday afternoon at Rhodes, falling by a 16-7 score at Mason Field in a meeting between the top teams in the Southern Athletic Association.

Centre has its nine-game winning streak snapped with the defeat, falling to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the SAA. The host Lynx, winners of seven straight, improve to 9-3 and 4-0 in-conference.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Rhodes claimed the first two draw controls of the game and quickly took a 2-0 lead, but Mary Katherine Hardy scored to put Centre on the board.
- She would capitalize on a Lynx yellow card near the 24-minute mark, leveling the score on a man-up goal.
- After nearly 10 scoreless minutes, the Lynx began a run of seven unanswered to open a wide advantage.
- The Colonels faced a nearly 22-minute scoring drought during the stretch, finally ended as M.K. Hardy scored her third goal just before the half. Rhodes took a 10-3 lead into the break.
- Centre, which has completed comeback wins multiple times this season, went on a three-goal run in the early stages of the second half to pull within 11-6. Hannah Hardy scored twice with Bella Tacogue adding the third.
- Rhodes responded, however, and squashed any comeback hopes with a 4-0 run to close out the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The two Hardy sisters and Tacogue scored all seven goals for Centre, which marked a season low as a team. Amelia Tomasulo provided two assists, with Abby Whitford and Tacogue adding one apiece.
- Centre out-shot Rhodes, 34-30, and finished with seven fewer turnovers, but Rhodes keeper Lauren Lazure totaled 15 saves to help stymie the Colonel offense.
- Lola Duff recorded 10 saves in-goal for Centre.
- Along with her goals, M.K. Hardy finished the game with a team-leading seven ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
