DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's lacrosse claimed a 12-8 victory against Augustana Saturday afternoon at Farris Stadium, contending with multiple lightning delays and other inclement weather throughout the contest.
The Colonels improve to 3-2 overall with the victory while send the visiting Vikings home with a 1-3 record.

Nic Malubay wrapped around the side of the cage to score the game's first goal at the 9:32 mark, following a 30-minute lightning delay.
- Augustana scored twice to take its first lead of the afternoon, but
Leland Gray converted a feed from
Jack Shannon less than a minute later to level the margin.
- Later in the first,
Vincent Pisacano caused a turnover and hit Gray for a goal in transition to give Centre a lead it would ultimately hold on to.
- The Colonels dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 5-2 to carry an 8-4 lead into the half, where the game's second lightning delay occurred. Malubay netted the quarter's first goal, and
Chase Poplin,
JR Brockman and
John Morrison added to the tally.
- After Shannon and
Will Lathram scored early in the third, Augustana rallied with three unanswered to put pressure on Centre heading into the fourth quarter.
- Gray scored a man-up goal in the opening stages of the fourth quarter, however, and
Anthony DiMichele added another to squash any comeback bid.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gray paced all players with six points, finishing with three goals and as many assists. Malubay and Morrison each totaled three points, scoring two goals apiece.
- Shannon led the Colonels with six ground balls, followed by
James Silva's five as Centre finished with a 32-27 advantage over Augustana as a team.
- Faceoffs were nearly even, with the Vikings claiming 13 of 24.
