Colonels run streak to five games with win over rival Pioneers

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's lacrosse won its fifth game in a row Wednesday evening, toppling in-state rival Transylvania by a 14-11 score at Farris Stadium.

It marks the longest winning stream for the program since the 2015 season, when the Colonels claimed seven in a row.

The victory moves Centre to 8-3 overall and 5-2 all-time against the Pioneers, who slide to 8-4 this season with Wednesday's loss.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Anthony DiMichele opened the scoring nearly three minutes in, sticking a shot after spinning past his defender.
- Transylvania's Bryce Lowe scored the visitors' first goal, but Leland Gray answered just 10 seconds later after JR Brockman claimed the faceoff ground ball and fed him for the assist.
- Trailing 3-2, Nic Malubay scooped up a loose ball just in front of goal and found the back of the net while drawing a penalty.
- Will Lathram and Malubay each tallied goals in the early stages of the second period, making it 5-3.
- Malubay continued to make an impact for Centre, causing a turnover that led to an easy goal from Gray.
- The Pioneers would score a pair of late goals in the period, however, tying the score at 6-6 prior to the half.
- Jack Shannon kicked off a big third quarter for Centre with an unassisted goal near the 11:32 mark, part of a three-goal period for the sophomore and a 5-1 run from the Colonels.
- Lathram and Gray each scored during the period, helping Centre carry an 11-7 advantage into the final quarter.
- The Pioneers wouldn't go quietly, though, scoring three unanswered in the fourth period to pull within 11-10.
- Padraic Dermody scored an unassisted goal with just seconds on the shotclock, making it 12-10.
- Vincent Pisacano forced a turnover on Transy's next possession, and Gray converted a pass from Luke Johnson to quickly push the lead to 13-10.
- Malubay all but ended the game with a goal in transition with just 1:14 left.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gray scored a season-high four goals on just five shots. He pushed his career goal total to 76, third most in program history.
- Malubay stuffed the stat sheet with three goals, five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
