JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. – Centre men's soccer scored three unanswered goals in a 3-2 comeback victory over Hanover Friday evening, opening the 2019 campaign at the Spalding Golden Eagle Classic in thrilling fashion.
The Colonels (1-0) found themselves trailing 2-0 to the Panthers (0-1), before a goal from
Dylan Barth and a pair from
Will Newton turned the tide.
Nick Mazzarella assisted on all three tallies.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Hanover scored the opening goal less than 15 minutes into the first half, as Luke Eppler converted on a deflected shot.
- The Panthers made it 2-0 early in the second period, but Barth quickly answered by converting a feed from Mazzarella for Centre's first score.
- Newton leveled the score after cleaning up a rebounded shot by Mazzarella in the 72nd minute.
- He would net the game-winner roughly 10 minutes later, putting away a ball played in by Mazzarella from the right wing.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre recorded 10 of its 15 shots in the second period, and Newton led the team with five total attempts. He put four on target, finishing with his third career multi-goal effort.
