MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Centre volleyball team kicked off its 2019 season in tournament action at Maryville, beginning with a match against the host Maryville Scots. The Colonels fell to the Scots in straight sets to open the season.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set saw the two teams trade the lead early on. With the score tied at 14-14, Maryville scored five of the next six points, and then used another run of five straight to take a 25-19 victory.
- The Scots grabbed the early lead in the second set and put the Colonels in a hole, but Centre gradually chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the score at 20-20 after a kill from Aby Dallas. After a Maryville timeout, the momentum the Colonels had in tying the set was gone and the Scots closed out the set with the final five points to win 25-20.
- Maryville used an early run of nine straight points to take an 11-2 lead in the third set and never looked back, going up by double figures and winning 25-10 to take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rookie Alice Rodgerson paced the Colonels with eight kills in her first collegiate contest. Fellow newcomer Josie Grace-Mudd and Aby Dallas each added five kills.
- Kylie Cochran led the way for Centre with 18 assists and was one of two Colonels with double digit digs, finishing with 11. Peyton Vacala tied for a match high with 16 digs.

Centre will wrap up their Maryville tournament on Saturday with a pair of matches against Washington & Lee and Huntingdon.
