Colonels split volleyball doubleheader at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Centre volleyball wrapped up play at the Maryville Bicentennial Tournament on Saturday and split their two matches for the day, falling in straight sets to the Generals of Washington & Lee before bouncing back with a clean sweep victory against the Huntingdon Hawks, giving head coach Patrick Robidoux his first win as head coach of the Colonels.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Against W&L, the Colonels battled back from an early deficit in the first set, tying the score on five separate occasions and forcing the set into extra points after kills from Katie Hall and Alice Rodgerson. However, the Generals would quickly score two points to take a 27-25 victory.
- Centre was unable to recapture the momentum they had at the end of the first set against Washington & Lee, digging early holes in each of the next two sets and falling by respective scores of 25-11 and 25-18.
- In the next match against Huntingdon, the Colonels gradually built the lead in the first set and capped it off with a bang, scoring five out of the final six points, with the last point coming courtesy of a tandem block by Aby Dallas and Savanna Roper.
- Centre built the early lead in the second set thanks to a 5-0 run and then closed out strong once again, scoring four out of the last five points as rookie Josie Grace-Mudd put home the final point with an ace.
- The Colonels dominated the final set against the Hawks and won by a score of 25-15 after Hall put away the final kill.
