DANVILLE, Ky. - After two weeks of road and neutral games, the Centre volleyball team hosted NAIA Indiana University Southeast in the first match of the season at Alumni Gym. With the match tied at 1-1, the visiting Grenadiers took control, winning the final two sets to take the match 3-1.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was a close one, with IUS grabbing the early lead, but never leading by more than five for the duration. The Colonels got close at 20-19, but the Grenadiers took the next three points and eventually won the first set 25-21.
- In the second set, the Colonels used a run of five straight points to break open a close frame and went up 20-14 following an ace from
Samantha Merkley and a tandem block by
Meredith Phillips and
Katie Hall.
Josie Grace-Mudd put home the final kill on Centre's 25-21 win as they tied the match at 1-1 going into the third set.
- The third and fourth sets played out in similar fashion, with IUS grabbing the early lead and never letting go, winning both sets by identical 25-18 scores.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rookie
Alice Rodgerson led a balanced Centre scoring attack, tying for a game high with 12 kills. Grace-Mudd and Hall each finished with double digit kills as well.
- Phillips led all players with 35 assists and assisted on four blocks.

Peyton Vacala paced the Colonels with 18 digs.
- The Grenadiers finished with 11 aces compared to four for the Colonels.
NEXT UP
Centre volleyball will be back on the road for the next two weeks, beginning with a weekend tournament at Sewanee. The Colonels will face Sewanee and Agnes Scott on Friday.
