DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer ran up against stiff competition Friday evening, falling 2-1 against Knox at Andrew P. Amend Field as part of the 30th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic.
In their first home match of the season, the No. 15 Colonels slide to 4-1-1 overall, while the Prairie Fire advance to 3-2. Friday was the first meeting between the two programs.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Knox opened scoring when Adetayo Adefioye found the back of the net from outside the 18-yard box in just the sixth minute.
- Centre had its chances the rest of the opening period, but Knox's keeper Joao Freire made a handful of quality saves to preserve the lead into the halftime break.
- The visitors would double the lead in the 59th minute on a goal from Jun Min.
- With just a couple minutes on the clock,
Alexander Garuba finally broke through with a goal directly off a free kick, but it proved too late to mount a comeback.

- Centre put six of its 13 shots on target, while Knox had five of its 11 on goal.

Tate Johnson had three saves for the Colonels, while his counterpart totaled five in the victory.

The Colonels have a tall task Saturday evening to close the event, facing No. 6 Kenyon at 7:30 p.m. The Lords defeated Spalding in Friday's match, 2-0.
