Centre knocks off Panthers in four sets

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre volleyball team won its second match in a row, overcoming a first set defeat to take the next three and defeat the LaGrange Panthers in four in their final match at the Sewanee Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS

- In the opening set, Centre grabbed a 19-13 lead, but the Panthers rallied and scored the last four points of the set to take a 25-22 comeback win.
- The Colonels bounced back in a big way in the second set, scoring the first five points and jumping out to a 13-3 lead that they would never relinquish, eventually winning by a score of 25-16.
- Now tied at 1-1, the Colonels once again took the early lead in the pivotal third set. After a 4-0 run broke a 12-12 tie, Centre never led by less than two the rest of the way and won 25-18.
- The fourth set played out in a similar fashion to the third, with Centre scoring five straight after the score was tied at 12-12. The Colonels closed out the match with a flurry, scoring the last five points to win 25-16 and take the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Josie Grace-Mudd led the way for Centre with a game high 13 kills and hit .278 for the match. Fellow newcomer Alice Rodgerson finished with a dozen kills, while Katie Hall and Savanna Roper each add nine.
- Meredith Phillips shattered a career high by recording 46 of Centre's 47 assists in the match.
- Defensively, Peyton Vacala led all players with 26 digs. Rodgerson added 15 digs for the Colonels.
- Much like their win against Agnes Scott last night, the Colonels were very effective at serving, matching a season high with 16 aces. Five different Centre players had multiple aces, led by Phillips with five.
- The Colonels hit .308 as a team in their clinching victory in the fourth set.

NEXT UP

Centre volleyball will be back in action next week for a weekend SAA road trip, beginning with a match against Rhodes on Saturday.
