Colonels shut out Pioneers for ninth straight win

LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 16 Centre field hockey kept its seven-game road trip going with a jaunt up north to take on the Transylvania Pioneers. The Colonels took control of the game from the start and improved to 9-0 on the year with a 10-0 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Reigning Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week Sarah Biggs picked up where she left off from the previous two games in Virginia, setting the tone early with a goal less than two minutes into the contest. Biggs later scored at the midway point of the first quarter after an assist from Caroline Brotzge.
- Savannah Elpers took over the final stages of the first period, scoring with just under five minutes left and then assisting on a Brotzge goal three minutes later to put Centre up 4-0 after one.
- In the second period, Kara Tipton scored off of an Ellie Dunham assist with less than two minutes remaining for the only goal of the quarter as Centre headed into the halftime break up by a score of 5-0.
- Biggs completed the hat trick early in the third period after an assist from Cora Kirby. Four minutes later, Brotzge scored her second goal of the game to put the Colonels up 7-0.
- The Colonels closed out the third quarter with a bang after Tipton found Jenkins for a goal at the buzzer.
- Megan Coomes and Tipton each scored goals in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- After her hat trick today, Biggs now has six goals in the Colonels' last three games.
- Tipton finished with two goals and two assists for six points.
- The Colonels enjoyed a 28-2 advantage in shots, including a 17-1 edge in shots on goal. Brotzge led all players with five shots, finishing with two goals and an assist for the afternoon.

The Centre field hockey team will be back in action on Oct. 5 with a road game at Earlham.
