Colonels set scoring record with rout of Oberlin

DANVILLE, Ky. – Saturday at South Turf was one for the record books for the Centre field hockey team, as the Colonels set a new single-game record for goals in a 12-0 shutout over Oberlin.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Goals came early and often for the Colonels as reigning Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week Savannah Elpers set the tone with the game's first score before two minutes had elapsed.
- Sarah Biggs, who was one of three Centre players with multiple goals in the contest, scored twice in a four-minute span to give Centre a quick 3-0 lead.
- Mackenzie Conkling's goal in the final minute of the first half gave the Colonels a 7-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
- The Colonels kept the pressure on during the third period, scoring five goals in the quarter, with Katie Jenkins' goal with two minutes left in the period setting the new Centre field hockey single-game scoring record.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- The Colonels' 12 goals broke the former school record of 11, set by the 2016 Centre field hockey squad against Lindenwood-Belleville.
- Sarah Biggs, Caroline Brotzge and Megan Coomes all scored two goals to pace a balanced Centre scoring attack. In total, nine different players got into the scoring column for the Colonels.
- Kristen Mulcahy, Sienna Joseph and Elizabeth Solomon all saw time in net for the Colonels, but none of Centre's keepers saw a ball in their direction as the Colonels dominated possession to the tune of a 33-0 advantage in total shots and 25-0 in shots on goal.

NEXT UP

It will be a quick turnaround for Centre field hockey, as the Colonels will welcome Wooster to South Turf on Sunday for a noon start.
