GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Centre women's soccer continued their winning ways Sunday at DePauw, defeating the host Tigers by a 2-1 score at Reavis Stadium.
The Colonels improve to 4-0 overall with their 27th consecutive regular season victory, moving DePauw to 1-3.
Elizabeth Nelson provided both goals for Centre.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The first period proved to be a battle for possession, resulting in a stalemate for nearly 45 minutes.
- Centre struck late in the half, however, as Nelson converted on a penalty kick with just 10 seconds remaining on the clock to give the Colonels 1-0 edge.
- The Colonels upped their offensive efforts in the second period, getting off 14 of their 19 total shots during the half.
- One of those came off the foot of Nelson, finding the back of the net to increase Centre's lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute.
- DePauw would get a goal back in the 82nd minute, but the Colonels would hang on for the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre out-shot DePauw 19-6, with Paynter's three attempts leading all individuals. The Colonels also held a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Centre's defense surrendered just one shot on goal.
