DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball pieced together an impressive 60-55 win against Rhodes Sunday in Southern Athletic Association action inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Colonels (10-8, 4-3 SAA) have now won six of their past eight, and snapped a three-game streak by the Lynx (10-7, 5-2).
Kat Wilson led the way with 21 points, and defensively Centre stifled Rhodes, allowing just 55 points despite the Lynx averaging nearly 75 points per game entering Sunday's contest.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre came out of the gates a bit slow, going more than three minutes without a basket and trailing 12-5 at the first media break.
- The Colonels displayed better defense at the end of the first quarter and into the second, forcing five Rhodes turnovers while keeping the Lynx off the board for more than seven minutes of game time.
- Wilson helped spark a 7-0 run that saw Centre take its first lead of the game at 17-16 with 1:21 left in the half.
- Rhodes bounced back to end the low-scoring half with a 20-19 advantage despite being held to 26% shooting from the field.
- The Lynx started the third quarter strong, using a 9-0 run to take its first double digit lead of the game at 31-21.
- Trailing 38-28 later in the period, Centre went on a 10-0 tear to square the game up before the fourth quarter. Wilson scored six during the run.
- Centre continued to click offensively, taking a 49-45 lead midway through the period following a 3-pointer from
Kylee Murray.
- The Colonels would take a 55-48 lead later in the period after
Madison Marcum drained a 3-pointer, coming after two Centre offensive rebounds.
- Wilson helped ice the game with a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

- Centre scored 41 points in the second half, shooting 46% overall while getting 12 second chance points.

Rachel Jennings, who started in place of Wehby, matched
Ellen Hicks with a team-high three assists and added two blocks.
- Rhodes entered the game as the SAA's highest scoring team, but was held nearly 20 points below its average. The Lynx also went 1 of 11 from 3-point range despite making more than 10 per game this season.
- Wilson worked for her season high, going 7 of 20 overall and 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
