Colonels complete season sweep over Warriors

CONWAY, Ark. – Centre women's basketball won its third game in a row and eighth of the past 10 outings Friday evening, dropping Hendrix, 73-59, in a Southern Athletic Association meeting inside Grove Gymnasium.

Centre (11-8, 5-3 SAA) nearly matched its season high with a 51% shooting effort as a team, and dominated the Warriors (2-17, 0-8) on the glass with a 41-25 rebounding advantage.

Rookie Payton Herold led five Colonels in double figures with a career-best 17 points, 14 of which came in the second quarter. Kat Wilson (14 points), Rachel Jennings (12), Ellen Hicks (10) and Mikayla Fee (10) rounded out Centre's double-digit scorers.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The two sides traded buckets throughout the opening stages, but Centre closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 advantage.
- Centre kept Hendrix off the scoreboard for more than five minutes to end the period.
- The Warriors regained the lead by going on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, but Herold came alive soon after. She drained three 3-pointers and scored 14 points – more than her previous season high – to give the Colonels a 40-26 halftime lead.
- Last Friday's meeting between the two teams hinged on a massive third quarter performance from the Colonels, and Centre opened this evening's second half with an 8-0 run.
- The Colonels would increase their lead to 18, 56-38, with just 10 minutes left to play.
- Hendrix threatened with a late push in the fourth quarter, but never managed to get within single digits. Wilson scored half of her points in the final period to help ice the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre shot 25 of 49 (51%) overall, 7 of 12 (58%) overall and 16 of 22 (73%) at the free throw line.
- The Colonels' +16 rebounding margin was their second best of the season, and marked their third straight game out-rebounding the opponent. Hicks and Fee totaled eight rebounds each, while Abigail Wehby had seven.
- Jennings set personal bests with six assists and four rebounds, finishing 5 of 9 from the floor in her second consecutive start.
- Thanks to Herold's 17, Centre enjoyed a wide 26-8 edge in bench points.
