Otterbein tops Centre in OT, 9-8

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's lacrosse dropped an overtime heartbreaker Monday evening against Otterbein, falling 9-8 to the visiting Cardinals at South Turf Field.

The Colonels fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Cardinals notch their first win to start the year 1-0.

Mary Katherine Hardy finished with three goals and an assist, while Lola Duff recorded 16 saves in an outstanding effort in the crease.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The visitors jumped out to an advantage early on, grabbing a 4-1 lead by the midway point of the opening half and forcing a timeout from the Colonel sideline.
- Centre eventually found its footing, and quick goals from McKenna Hulette and Hardy had the home team back within one score.
- Near the nine-minute mark, Duff made a save in a one-on-one scenario, and the Colonels quickly went the length of the field as Sloan Reding hit the back of the net to level the score.
- The Cardinals scored late in the half, and again early in the second to push their lead back up to 6-4.
- Later in the period, Centre reeled off four unanswered to swing the two-goal lead in its favor. Hardy scored two during the run, but a score from Marina Burke on Grace Aug's assist during the stretch was perhaps the highlight of the game.
- Julia Karas brought Otterbein even with five minutes remaining after two consecutive scores.
- Duff made a save in the final minute of regulation to help force overtime.
- Both sides maintained possession in the overtime period, but Macey Buchanan went on to net the golden goal for the Cardinals roughly four minutes in.
