Colonels claim chilly home opener in 12-2 rout over Hanover

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's lacrosse took a quick lead and never looked back Thursday evening, cruising past visiting Hanover by a 12-2 margin in Farris Stadium under frigid conditions.

The Colonels move to 1-1 overall on the young season, sending the Panthers to a similar 1-1 record while improving to 10-0 all-time against Hanover.

Centre's defense caused fits for the Panthers, who wouldn't score until late in the third quarter. Hanover ultimately finished with more turnovers (26) than shots (23).

HIGHLIGHTS
- It didn't take long for the Colonels to take command, as John Morrison and Padraic Dermody each hit the back of the net within the first five minutes.
- After another Morrison goal, Caleb Anderson and Will Hubbs each netted impressive unassisted scores to make it 5-0 after the first period.
- Centre scored another five in the second, eventually taking a sizeable 10-0 advantage into the halftime break.
- Morrison and Hubbs each recorded hat tricks in the opening half, while Chase Poplin converted on Centre's lone man-up opportunity. Jack Shannon also scored his second goal of the season.

- Hanover finally broke the shutout with under four minutes to play in the third quarter.
