DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's lacrosse dropped a tough 10-9 contest against Ohio Northern Wednesday evening inside Farris Stadium.
Although the Colonels (2-2) overcame an early four-goal deficit, the visiting Polar Bears (4-1) scored a pair of late goals to cap the back-and-forth affair.
Caleb Anderson scored a collegiate-high three goals for the Colonels, while
Connor Jongewaard turned aside 16 ONU shots.
HIGHLIGHTS
- A transition goal from
Will Hubbs highlighted what was otherwise a forgettable opening quarter for the home side, who saw the Polar Bears grab a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes.

Jack Shannon scored early in the second quarter after gathering a loose ball in front of the cage, and not long after
John Morrison squeezed the ball in the top corner on a feed from Hubbs.
- Anderson scored his first of the day after dodging an ONU defender to bring the score to 5-4.
- The Polar Bears got a couple back later in the period, but Anderson put away a
- ONU two back, but Anderson scored his second off a Morrison feed before the half to pull Centre within 7-5.
- Shannon converted an early opportunity in the third quarter, and
Anthony DiMichele netted one of his own minutes later to bring Centre level at 7-7.
- Momentum continued to shift, and eventually Centre took its first lead of the game, 9-8, midway through the fourth quarter.
Nic Malubay and Anderson each turned in highlight-worthy scores to give the Colonels an edge.
- Ohio Northern would net the game's last two goals, winning the ensuing faceoff after each to help seal the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Shots favored the Polar Bears, 37-27, as did ground balls, 29-21. ONU managed 13 of 23 faceoffs.
- Centre held Ohio Northern to an 0-for-4 mark on man-up opportunities.
