Colonels battle to 1-1 tie with Vikings

DANVILLE, Ky. - Amend Field played host to a rematch of last spring's Southern Athletic Association championship game as Centre men's soccer faced the Berry Vikings. The match went into two overtime periods before it ended in a 1-1 draw.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Vikings controlled the pace of the first half, limiting the Colonels to just one shot, which was turned away by Berry. Berry ended up outshooting Centre 6-1 for the half, but only one of the Vikings' shots reached the Centre goal, and Haydon Korfhage denied it.
- In the second half, Berry remained the aggressors and after a series of corner kicks in the opening five minutes, they finally got on the board in the 50th minute when Dylan Bloch scored.
- After Berry took a 1-0 lead, the Colonels picked up the intensity. They began to pepper the Berry goal with shots and finally capitalized at the 64-minute mark when Sota Ippongi delivered the equalizer for Centre.
- In the last 15 minutes of regulation, Korfhage stopped the best chance Berry had following a Centre yellow card. The Colonels got a few chances in the final minutes as well, but could not put one in the net as the game went into overtime.
- For two overtime periods, neither team could get much offense going as there were only three combined shots across both overtimes, with none of them approaching the opposing net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- After being outshot 6-1 in the first half, the Colonels battled back with 12-7 advantage in shots in the second half.
- Korfhage finished with three saves on the day, while Berry's Jose Palacios had six saves.
- The Colonels had a 7-4 edge over the Vikings in corner kicks.
