DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre volleyball pulled out a remarkable 3-2 victory against Sewanee Thursday evening, winning 14-25, 25-19, 29-27, 14-25, 17-15 inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Colonels improved to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in the Southern Athletic Association with their second five-set win against the Tigers this season. Sewanee heads home with an 8-11 record, including a 4-9 mark in-conference.
Prior to the match, Centre celebrated the careers of seniors
Katie Hall and
Anna Mathis.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Hitting errors plagued the Colonels throughout the opening set, which the Tigers claimed by a 25-14 score. Centre hit just .026 (10 kills - 9 errors - 38 attempts), compared to a solid .400 (10-0-25) from Sewanee.
- The second set was much tighter and featured nine ties. A couple of late kills from Hall and
Brooke Palmer helped create enough separation for Centre to win 25-19.
Lily Hendricks was crucial for the Colonels, totaling eight digs and two services aces during the set.
- After another close start to the opening of set three, the Colonels reeled off a 10-2 run to take a 19-11 advantage. Sewanee battled all the way back, however, and had set point three separate times before the Colonels pulled out a 29-27 win. Hall and
Eleanor Davis each delivered timely kills late in the stanza, while Hall and
Ellie Driver paired on a block for the set-clinching point.
- Sewanee led wire to wire in the fourth set, racing out to an early lead and finishing with a 25-14 win to force the decisive fifth.
- The Tigers again began the final set on a strong note, taking a 9-5 lead and forcing a timeout from the Colonels. Centre clawed back to tie the set at 10-10, and down the stretch got clutch kills once again from Hall to help seal the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hall was magnificent on her Senior Night, matching a career high with 18 kills while hitting .225. Davis followed with a dozen kills, hitting a team-high .286, and Palmer finished with 11.
- Hendricks set a new career best with 22 digs, adding a career-high-tying four aces and zero receiving errors on 26 tries.
Madi Barron followed with 17 digs, while Palmer (13),
Meredith Phillips (13) and
June Padilla (10) also recorded double figures.

- The match featured 34 ties and 11 lead changes across the five sets.
