WILMORE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team guaranteed itself a winning record for the 2021 regular season as the Colonels completed a dramatic sweep of the Asbury Eagles on Wednesday night.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre utilized six aces – including three straight from
Emily Goddin – to break open what had been a close opening set about halfway through, cruising to a 25-17 victory.
- In the second set, the Colonels grabbed the lead after the first few points, but they could not shake the Eagles, who eventually battled back to take the lead at 18-17. From there,
Eleanor Davis and
Brooke Palmer delivered consecutive kills and Centre regained the momentum, eventually winning 25-21.
- The third set saw Asbury score the first five points and dominate the early stages, leading by as many as 11 points at 17-6. Centre slowly chipped away, thanks to consecutive aces by
Lily Hendricks and four straight kills by Davis. Facing set point at 24-20,
Katie Hall took over, recording a block and two kills in a 6-0 run that gave Centre a 26-24 victory and the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Davis led all players with 15 kills, tying the career high number she set one week ago at Franklin.

Emily Gardner finished with a game high 28 assists – more than Asbury had as a team – while
Meredith Phillips played the third set and added ten helpers of her own.
- Centre held a 57-43 advantage over Asbury in digs.
Madi Barron led all players with 13 digs, while Hendricks finished with ten. Hendricks and Goddin each finished with a game high four aces.
- The 11-point margin in the third set was the largest deficit overcome by the Colonels all season long.

Centre volleyball will return home this weekend to resume conference play, starting with a match against Hendrix on Saturday.
