Centre thumps Concordia in SAA opener, 7-0

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre field hockey found the back of the cage early and often Saturday in a lopsided 7-0 victory against Concordia Wisconsin, beginning their Southern Athletic Association slate at home on South Turf Field.

The Colonels earn their 10th win of the season and improve to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAA. The visiting Falcons fell to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in-conference.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Much like they did in Friday's 2-0 win against Roanoke, the Colonels began the match on the attack, resulting in a goal less than two minutes into the game from Ellie Dunham.
- Only 60 seconds later, Dunham doubled her tally after back-handing a pass from Shelby Young to make it 2-0.
- Megan Coomes got on the board before five minutes had elapsed, collecting a rebound off an initial shot from Maran Lee.
- Maggie Will finished the first-quarter scoring after cleaning up a scrum in front of the cage, giving the Colonels a 4-0 advantage after 15 minutes.
- Centre's offense continued to manufacture close range shots, and Will converted again on an assist from Coomes early in the second quarter.
- Coomes scored her second of the afternoon less than one minute later following a penalty corner, as Meredith Wickenheiser provided the assist.
- Lee tallied the seventh and final goal midway through the second quarter as Will added an assist.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre out-shot CUW 55-5, recording season highs in both total attempts and margin of shots taken. The 34 shots on goal also proved to be a season high and the 55 tries were the most for the program since 2016.
- Wickenheiser led the team with 16 shots, while Lee, Dunham and Bella Estes finished with seventh each.
- Sienna Joseph and Carlie McKenry split time in goal for Centre.
