Centre returns to SAA title match after 4-0 shutout over Sewanee

MEQUON, Wis. – Centre field hockey defeated Sewanee in Saturday's Southern Athletic Association Tournament semifinal, winning by a 4-0 score at Tomasini Stadium on the campus of Concordia Wisconsin.
 
The Colonels (14-2) dominated possession and ended up with goals from four different scorers, defeating the Tigers (6-10) for the second time in the last eight days to advance to the SAA Tournament finale.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre took nine shots during the opening quarter, but it wasn't until early in the second when Ellie Dunham found the back of the cage to open the scoring. It was the junior's 10th goal of the season and came just 17 seconds after the period began.
- Soon after, Megan Coomes recorded her team-leading 11th goal of the year off an assist from Kate Pilcher, and the Colonels took their 2-0 advantage into the half.
- The Colonels recorded back-to-back goals in the third to increase their lead. Olivia Broyles scored her fourth goal of the campaign with the help of Jackie Rodriguez, and less than two minutes later Maggie Will capped the scoring on her fifth goal.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels ended with a 37-2 advantage in total shots, putting 22 on target. Centre's defense did not allow a single Sewanee shot on goal.
- Coomes led the Colonels with 12 shots, while Dunham totaled six.
- Sienna Joseph and Carlie McKenry split time in goal for Centre.
 
UP NEXT
Centre faces Rhodes in the SAA Championships Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. The Colonels and Lynx are the only two teams to have played in the conference finale, with Centre claiming three of the last four. In the regular season meeting, Centre claimed a 3-2 win on a penalty shootout.
