DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre football won its third consecutive game Saturday, defeating Sewanee by a 30-20 score at Harris Stadium.
The Colonels improve to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Athletic Association, dropping the Tigers to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in-conference.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Defense highlighted a scoreless first quarter.
Miles Smith had three early tackles for loss to help keep the Tigers off the board, but Sewanee did its part to contain Centre's typically high-scoring offense.
- Centre put points on the board early in the second quarter, as
Cam Tegge capped an 8-play, 66-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal.
- The Colonels forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and two plays later
Patric Edwards hit paydirt to make it 10-0. Sewanee got nothing going on its next drive, either, and by the midway point of the quarter Centre scored again on a touchdown pass from
Trentin Dupper to
Jordan Gunter.
- Leading 17-7 at the half, Centre began the third quarter with a touchdown drive sparked by a 54-yard kickoff return from
Christian Billiter. Dupper closed the possession on an 8-yard scamper for his eighth rushing score of the season.
- After a 13-play possession that resulted in a Sewanee touchdown, the Colonels answered with a mammoth 14-play scoring drive that ate over six minutes of clock in the fourth quarter, making it 30-13.
- The Tigers scored late, but their onside kick failed and the Colonels were able to run the rest of the clock out.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Edwards carried the ball 30 times for a career-high 210 yards, averaging seven yards per rush and totaling two touchdowns. Daylin Huff led the team with four catches, going for 39 yards, while Gunter hauled in three for 40 yards.
- Smith finished with seven tackles, including four for loss, and a QB hurry.
