Offensive issues cost Colonels at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – A shorthanded Centre women's basketball squad dropped a 67-35 contest at Maryville Wednesday evening, falling to the Scots for the second time this season.
 
Playing in their first game since Dec. 4 – and without second-leading scorer Bailey Rucker – the Colonels (3-4) struggled on the offensive end, shooting under 28% as a team. Centre also turned the ball over 23 times which resulted in 27 points for the host Scots (3-6).
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first quarter proved to be the closest, and Centre held a slim 8-7 lead midway through the period following a 3-pointer from Piper Hensley.
- Maryville had a 19-6 stretch to end the first frame and begin the second, opening up a 26-14 advantage.
- Hensley had a trio of 3-pointers for a career high nine points by halftime, but the Colonels trailed 38-25 as the teams went into the break.
- Centre managed only 10 points during the third and fourth quarters, going 4 of 27 from the floor while missing all five 3-pointers.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Maryville held a 27-0 advantage in points off turnovers, capitalizing on Centre's 23 miscues. The Scots also finished with a 32-18 edge in points in the paint.
- Centre out-rebounded Maryville, 39-37. Payton Herold had a team-high seven boards, while Presley Chirico followed with six.
- Hensley's nine points led the team, as she was the only Colonel to hit more than two shots.

The Colonels travel to Atlanta to take part in the Oglethorpe Classic. Centre takes on Southern Virginia this Friday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m.
