Centre runs past Huntingdon with big second half performance

ATLANTA – Centre women's basketball put together a 58-point second half to rally past Huntingdon, winning by an 82-62 final in the Oglethorpe Holiday Classic inside the Dorough Field House.
 
The Colonels shot above 67% from the floor across the third and fourth quarters, scoring a season-high 29 points in each period. Bailey Rucker had a career-high 17 points and Presley Chirico followed with 16 to lead the offensive effort.
 
Centre improves to 4-5 overall while the Hawks fall to 3-8.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- It was all Huntingdon to start the game, as the Hawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead while keeping Centre scoreless for more than six minutes.
- The Colonels started to climb back, and a 3-pointer from Piper Hensley later in the quarter had Centre within one possession heading to the second quarter.
- Centre had a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, sparked by five points from Rucker, and eventually took a slight 24-23 lead into the half.
- Emma Rose Vincent hit a jumper on the first possession of the third quarter, setting the tone for a 29-point frame that allowed Centre to widen its lead. Chirico scored 12 of her 16 points during the third quarter to help the Colonels open a 53-41 advantage through three periods.
- Rucker sank a 3-pointer to begin the fourth quarter, and as a team the Colonels had nine individuals score in the final stanza to run away with the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rucker was an efficient 5-for-7 overall (3-for-4 from long range) while hitting four freebies en route to a new collegiate high.
- The Colonels set team season-highs in points, field goals, field goal percentage, 3-point field goals and 3-point percentage.
- Vincent and Natalie Duggins had 12 points each to join Rucker and Chirico in double figures.
- Centre dominated the glass, out-rebounding Huntingdon 41-23 to match its largest rebounding advantage of the season. Duggins pulled in eight boards to lead the team, followed by six each from Rucker and Chirico.
- Rachel Jennings dished six assists and Vincent totaled five.
- After turning the ball over 12 times in the first half, the Colonels had only five turnovers in the second.

Centre flies to the Sunshine State to take part in the Daytona Beach Shootout, beginning Monday at 2 p.m. ET against Wisconsin-Whitewater.
