Second half shooting carries Vikings past Colonels

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball fell victim to a hot-shooting Berry squad Saturday afternoon, falling by an 82-56 score inside Alumni Gymnasium.

Leading by just three points at the half, the visiting Vikings (7-1) poured in 11 second-half 3-pointers to pull away from the host Colonels (3-3).

Drew Wilson led Centre with a personal-best 12 points and Jalen Williams followed with 10.

Prior to the game, the careers of seniors Dawson Crump, Will Britt and Evan Thompson (manager) were honored.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Centre led 6-5 not long after opening tip, but a sluggish start offensively allowed Berry to claim a 12-6 edge moments later.

- The Vikings' defense was markedly better Saturday than it was Friday, evidenced by three blocks on a trio of early 3-point attempts from the Colonels.

- Wilson provided a spark off the bench for Centre, scoring nine of his 12 in the first period to help Centre claw back to within 29-26 at the halftime break.

- Berry scorched the nets in the second half, opening up a 56-41 lead by the midway point.

- The Colonels couldn't keep pace with the Vikings, who went 11 of 19 from long range and 18 of 29 overall throughout the second frame.


 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Berry clamped down on Centre throughout the game, holding the Colonels to 37% (20-54) overall and just 24% (5-21) from deep.

- Wilson also led Centre with five rebounds, adding two assists and two steals.
